Introducing Homestead!

Growing up in Colorado, I learned more about Westward Expansion and the vision of settlers in the 1860's to own a piece of land, their version of the American Dream, than the average history student.  We would visit local mountain homesteads to see what homestead life was like. In college, I choose to study Westward Expansion in depth as part of a history major, and when someone suggested that I name my fledgling company and future property (my version of the American Dream) Homestead Farms, something just felt right.

2 million people made their dream of property ownership come true, walking behind plows, planting crops by hand, constructing homesteads, and making their square on the quilt of the American heartland home. Now hundreds of years later, we are redefining our vision and searching for a plot of land of our own.

Right now Homestead is best described as a passionate garage hobby with big dreams of owning a modern homestead - creating something out of the land, watching crops and children grow, building community and hosting other families' milestone events in an iconic big red barn - families coming together as one in simple, rustic wedding ceremonies; families celebrating childhood birthdays on the farm; families and community learning about agriculture, and family reunions full of fun and memories.

This blog highlights our interior design projects - creating beautiful, functional and simple home designs and upcycled furniture for family and friends, and our or pursuit of the Big Red Barn.
